2 Mill Street is ideal if you want a cottage holiday without a car. The bus stop in Crickhowell is 3 minutes’ walk from 2 Mill Street. The X43 bus service goes directly to Abergavenny town centre and Railway Station. London Paddington is two and a half hours by train (change at Newport) and Manchester is the same journey time (no changes). Bristol Parkway is 1 hour away from Abergavenny. You can get everything you need for your stay in Crickhowell’s local shops. As our reviews will tell you, there are great walks from the front door.
If you come by car, 2 Mill Street is 10 minutes from dual carriageway that links directly to the motorway network. As a guide, Junction 24 of the M4 (Coldra and Celtic Manor Resort) is half an hour’s drive. The Severn Bridge/M49 takes 40 minutes and the M4/M5 junction outside Bristol is less than an hour away. The toll on the Severn Bridge coming in to Wales is currently £5.60.
DIRECTIONS BY CAR
When travelling from the north, east or south i.e. from England or from South Wales, you are most likely to end up at Hardwick roundabout outside Abergavenny where the A40, A465 and A4042 meet. From the roundabout take the exit marked Merthyr Tydfil A465, Blaenavon, Llanfoist. TO AVOID THE LONG TERM ROADWORKS ON THE A465 AT GILWERN DO THE FOLLOWING. Take the first exit off the A465 signposted Blaenavon Llanfoist Nevill Hall Hospital A&E. Take the third exit at the roundabout then at the next roundabout, take the third exit again i.e. go back under the dual carriageway towards Abergavenny. At the Waitrose roundabout take the third exit, cross the river bridge and take the first exit at the next roundabout. Continue to the next roundabout and take the first exit on to the A40 towards Brecon. Crickhowell is on this road in about five miles. When you get to Crickhowell, drive through the town and at the Shell petrol station turn left towards Llangattock on to New Road. Pass Crickhowell High School on your right and as you pass the church on your left there is a very sharp right turn which is Mill Street. 2 Mill Street is on the left at the bottom of the slope – parking is on the gravel drive to the rear.
From Brecon on A40 – turn right at Shell petrol station in Crickhowell towards Llangattock onto New Road. Pass Crickhowell High School on your right and as you pass the church on your left there is a very sharp right turn which is Mill Street. 2 Mill Street is on the left at the bottom of the slope – parking is on the gravel drive to the rear.
From West Wales, Swansea, Merthyr on A465 – at roundabout on Heads of Valleys Road take first exit signposted A4077 to Crickhowell and Gilwern. At Gilwern village keep following the signs to Crickhowell. After two miles go through the village of Legar and at the traffic lights turn right over the Usk bridge towards Crickhowell. Keep left at Bridge End Inn on other side of bridge. Carry on up New Road, after a few hundred yards up the hill turn left at the fork in the road which is Mill Street. Number 2 is on the left at the bottom of the slope – parking is on the gravel drive to the rear.
By rail. Abergavenny is the nearest railway station which has direct trains from Newport, Cardiff and Swansea to the south and Hereford, Shrewsbury, Crewe and Manchester to the north. The X43 bus service from Brecon to Abergavenny runs through Crickhowell. The taxi fare from Abergavenny to Crickhowell is around £15.
